Pixar’s Elemental: An Unearthly Disaster

Pixar’s Elemental (2023) Review: 2/5 ⭐️

Water, Earth, Fire, Air… sounds familiar, right? Well, despite the 2023 film Elemental’s striking animation style and promising performances by newcomers Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie, this film is nothing more than a figment of Pixar’s legacy bound to be forgotten.

Whether it be a mere water droplet or fiery spark, Elemental has already dissolved into “just another animated movie” along with the other shameful, cash-grab films in the mix. This is disappointing to see considering the uniquely intricate storytelling audiences are used to seeing with Pixar— iconic pieces such as Toy Story, Inside Out, and even recent ones like Luca and Onward, just to name a few.

The storytelling element was severely lacking in this film, ultimately putting such beautiful animation and world building to complete waste. Especially after watching the technical masterpiece that is Across the Spiderverse a week prior to this, Elemental had me leaving the theater with a grim outlook on my favorite animation studio.

Pixar, from the fans to you, please do better.
