The Super Mario Bros. Movie: Yippee!

A Cinemagazine Review 🎞️

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Yippee.

From the fields of the Mushroom Kingdom to the menacing depths of the Dark Lands, Aaron Horvath and Michaels Jelenic’s whimsical approach to the “Super Mario Bros. Movie” has left fans dizzied by nostalgia and moviegoers raving with excitement. Utilizing an idiosyncratic cinematography style unique to its video game motifs, the film jumps out at the audience through spectacular coloration and flawless animation. Despite the plot’s lack of complexity, the screenwriting was just witty enough to encapsulate the pure essence of beloved characters such as Anya Taylor-Joy’s Princess Peach, Chris Pratt’s Mario, and most notably, Jack Black’s eccentric, yet impeccable take on Bowser. The sound behind the entirety of the film is truly what takes the mushroom-shaped cake— sprinkled with hints of retro, Brian Taylor layers A-ha’s Take Me On over an action scene reminiscent of childhood Nintendo day, making up for the simple plot and stagnant character developments. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a solid film for children and adults alike, but an especially perfect tribute for Mario fans to indulge in (Photos/Universal Studios).
